Romulus Lab Tanks Design
Later on in the project, I was asked to return to the Lab to resolve a critical area of the space that contained facehuggers being harvested for their ‘black goo’. The challenge here was to produce a concept that clearly illustrated materiality, detail and functionality that could inform a blueprint for the set designers to build a practical set. The design had to have a realistic and have a working function that would dictate its look and feel. I proposed 2 x horizontal tanks that would become windows highlighting the facehuggers against the darkness of the room. Hoses are connected to a stationary unit in front of the tanks, resembling a gas station pump. When a facehugger is required to be harvested for its ‘goo’,a hose is taken out of the unit, inserted into the creature and thrown into the tank via a long horizontal recess above.
